My picture in Brighton As a student at the Institute of Development Studies, I have had a fascinating year. A time of intense work, as well as travel and a bit of reminiscing describes my 1998. Contacting old friends and meeting people from many countries and all ages has been part of this enriching experience. Brighton's waterfront, the downs, and the manageable size of the city have made it a very pleasant place to live for a foreigner. I am from ECUADOR. Champagne with a friend New Year with good friends In December 1997, I met up with some friends I knew from Ecuador in the Czech countryside. Ecuadorians, Germans, Czechs, Kiwis, French... Lots of food, beer and a little salsa dancing and walking. Much cheaper than England!!!!

My home in Europe La Chaux-de-Fonds Switzerland Before Brighton, this was the city I have lived in the longest in Europe. It is the place where Le Corbusier and Blaise Cendrars were born...if you are interested in that type of thing. It is also the coldest place I have ever lived in, but I met some of the warmest people. I lived there from 1990 to 1991.

Students of the World Unite International Students A sample of the eclectic mix of cultures in Brighton. I often got together with foreign students for dinners in the international postgraduate student building of Kings Rd.

My recommendations for the Inside Guide to Brighton & Hove:

Bodiam Castle: Hitchhiking with nice English people from Sussex
The Palace Pier: One of Brighton's piers - changing with the seasons
The Lanes: Music, coffee and lots of people on a sunny day
