"I came to Brighton in July '93 to take up a teaching post at Balfour Junior School, working with children aged 7-11. I recently decided to have a break from teaching, and I am about to start an MSc in 'Human-Centred Computer Systems' at Sussex University. I hope that this will ultimately allow me to combine my interests in computing, photography and teaching - as well as enabling me to continue living in Brighton! This photo was taken on a digital camera - not bad, but it doesn't give you a clear idea of my true NOSESIZE."
"This is my identity tag for Balfour Junior School. I worked there for four years, teaching children aged 9-11 years old. My move to Balfour was significant to me as it was my first 'professional' job, and the beginning of the end of debts! I've slightly doctored the image on the computer, you can just about see this if you look at a close-up of the photo."
"I've had a serious interest in photography for around twelve years now. Before becoming a full-time teacher I spent a lot of time making images. I've held several exhibitions, the image opposite was exhibited in 1993 at Exeter museum. It was one of a set of five called 'indifference'. An alternative title of 'Give us a kiss soldier' was suggested - and rejected."
"Me with mum and dad on a recent visit home. I spent my first eighteen years in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I grew up in Walkerdene, an eastern suburb near the river Tyne. My father, like many, worked for Swan Hunters shipbuilders. I've included this photo as it has a nice view of the river Tyne. It was taken at Corbridge - originally a Roman settlement - which is around twenty miles west of Newcastle."
My recommendations for the Inside Guide to Brighton & Hove:
Dyke Park: Edwardian gardens and a view of the sea.
Preston Park: Huge trees and excellent coffee.
St Ann's well gardens: Far(ish) from the madding traffic.
